Zap, No. 1
[SF: Apex Novelties, 1967]. The rare first printing of the first underground comic ever published. The first printing was done by Beat poet and collage artist, Charles Plymell, with the entire issue devoted to work by R. Crumb. Though a reference guide states that 5000 copies were printed, its infrequent appearance on the market suggests that Pam Plymell's statement that the print run was 1500 is probably closer to being correct. A groundbreaking publication that ushered in the "underground comix" scene of the sixties, and introduced the work of it's preeminent artist, R. Crumb, whose characters have become mainstays of Popular Culture. A bright, fresh copy of this iconic high spot from the sixties counterculture.

A book sold for $1,200 in 2002 and was only in good.fair condition (1.0), the ratio of pricing to grading would make a NM (9.4) copy go for the neighborhood of $15,000 as a lowend. This is not a joke if you follow the grading guidelines set up by Overstreet.

Zap #1 came out in 1967 and probably tops out at $6,000, maybe $7,000 for a NM copy in 2001. Lets say at 40 years for this book, it's worth at least the value of a 40 year old
Amazing Fantasy #15 (that's fair and a low fairness since the Amazing Fantasy is only 39 years old)........but every
indication says that 35 year old Zap Plymell is already
matching a 40 year old ratio of an Amazing Spiderman #1 and near an Amazing Fantasy #15.

This copy is fine to very good.
